Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 September 2026

This is the personal website of Jack Bishop, an individual based in the United Kingdom. It is a personal writing and portfolio site. It does not sell anything, does not run advertising, and does not operate user accounts.

Who is responsible for your data

Jack Bishop is the data controller for this website. You can reach me at hello@jackbishop.co about anything on this page. This policy is governed by the law of England and Wales, and personal data is handled under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What this site collects

This site sets no cookies of its own, and there is no advertising, no ad network, no cross-site tracking, and no profiling or automated decision-making. The only data collected is described below.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes short-lived technical request logs — including IP address, user agent, and requested URL — to serve pages and to protect the site against abuse. These logs are retained by Vercel on their standard schedule and are not used by me to identify or profile visitors.

Aggregate page analytics

This site uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It is cookieless: it stores nothing on your device, does not use a persistent identifier, and does not follow you to other websites. It tells me which pages are read and roughly where readers came from, in aggregate only. I cannot identify individual visitors from it.

Email updates

If — and only if — you choose to subscribe to email updates, your email address is stored and processed by Buttondown, a third-party newsletter service. It is used to send you posts and nothing else. It is never sold, rented, or shared with anyone else. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes your address from the list.

Legal basis

Server logs and aggregate analytics rely on legitimate interests — keeping the site available, secure, and worth writing. Email updates rely on your consent, which you give by subscribing and can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing.

Links to other sites

This site links out to third-party websites, including LinkedIn, GitHub, and coverage in the press. Once you follow a link, that site's own privacy policy applies. I have no control over how those sites handle your data.

Children

This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data held about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive a copy of it in a portable format. To exercise any of these, email hello@jackbishop.co and I will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new "last updated" date above.
